IMPORTANT: Applications must indicate your citizenship status (Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, Student Visa, etc). Any submission without this will not be considered. Please put the information in your cover letter and make it easy to spot, thank you! The Organization: Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is a department within the Federal Public Service whose mandate is to preserve and enhance the quality of the natural environment by making sustainable development a reality in Canada. At Environment Canada, we value our environment and its vital importance to the identity and well-being of present and future generations. To learn more about us, please visit our website at http://www.ec.gc.ca The Position: Environment Canada is looking for students to join the Corporate Services Branch – Reusable Applications Division as a Web Applications Developer. This co-op position will allow you to use your technical knowledge, strong communication and problem solving skills and desire to learn to work on projects that have a real-life impact on our environment. The position primarily consists of project based work developing feature-rich web applications that focus on presenting information using interactive maps. There may also be opportunities to work on data-centric app sites using C# Blazor. Through this position, you will become an integral part of our team by playing a key role alongside our team members in taking projects through the different stages of the development life cycle. Have a gander at some of our open source repos on github: https://github.com/ramp4-pcar4/ramp4-pcar4 https://github.com/fgpv-vpgf/fgpv-vpgf Our office in Toronto is easily accessible by local transit (both York Region and the TTC). Some of the benefits that make Environment Canada a great place to work include:
Salary: The contract offered will be for $25.52 per hour, but will also include a 4% addition in lieu of vacation time, making the actual compensation $26.54. The rate may be raised at any time by the Treasury Board for cost-of-living adjustments, but at this time we can only guarantee the stated amount. Please note that employees are paid in arrears. |

COVID-19 Notes: The work location situation is a dynamic one. At this moment we are a flexible “four days in the office per month”. However, this policy can change at any point depending on a number of factors. Be prepared for the possibility that work will resume on-site full time within the work term. When working remotely, you will be at your home. A laptop will be delivered to you, but you will need to supply a reliable internet connection and your own work area. A successful candidate will need access to a printer to complete the onboarding forms, and may be required to mail documents via the post and/or visit an RCMP office for fingerprinting. Proof of vaccination will be required (at the time of writing, this is defined as two vaccinations from one of the standard approved brands). And this is a sneaky reminder to include your citizenship status on your cover letter. Each year, around 40% of candidates fail to do this. Impress us by following a basic instruction :'D Interviews will be done virtually (MS Teams, links will be sent to candidates). Please have access to a device with a camera and microphone. |
