Job Description: When you go to a show, you hear more than words and music. You hear how the quietness of the room, the shape of the room, and the finishes in the space work together to create an experience.

You’re a talented student, looking for challenging work, flexibility, and a culture that pushes you to be your best.  You want to engineer that experience.  We’re Aercoustics Engineering Ltd., and this is where you belong.

Who is Aercoustics?
We’re an award-winning, national leader in consulting engineering services in the field of acoustics, noise and vibration. Our team of “outrageous engineers” works on varied and challenging projects, from noise reduction of pits and quarries, to designing world-class performance spaces for the Royal Conservatory. On any given day you might find us in the middle of a wheat field assessing the noise from wind turbines, or deep in the subway tunnels conducting multi-channel vibration measurements. Wherever you find us, you can be sure that we are pushing industry boundaries and having fun.

We would love to hear from you if…
You’re curious and driven to understand the why and how behind every problem. You are a self-starter with a proven track-record of taking initiative and making things happen. You are excited to work hard, learn a lot, and have fun as a valued member of a high-performing team. You are our next Engineering Intern – and we can’t wait to meet you!
We’re looking for a student to join our Research and Development team who enjoys tackling tough problems, getting their hands dirty and excels at effectively communicating and working on a team.

Acoustics Software Dev Intern – The Role
This unique role will focus on our research and development initiatives. In keeping with our high standards and quality of work, we have several custom in-house software and hardware tools/services which have been developed both to assist our consulting engineers in their work as well as to provide services to our clients directly. The role of this position will be to maintain and create tools/services and assist users through documentation and live training sessions.

Software projects will vary in complexity over a range of functions from data collection, data management, and data reduction to a large variety of sophisticated data analysis. All tools and services are expected to have well conceived and accessible user interfaces and be intuitively documented. Some occasional site work may be involved.

There’s a lot of variety in this work, and each new project will challenge you to further develop your engineering skills and your decision-making process. You will be pushed to think outside the box - there may be twenty solutions to the same problem, so we encourage our people to think creatively, use their professional judgement, and “respect the science”.

Specific tasks may include but are not limited to:
  • Assist in improving efficiencies by developing new software/hardware tools and services
  • Take direction from senior engineers on development tasks
  • Understand the needs and requirements of various applications
  • Undertake research and provide recommendations regarding the best technologies to use for various applications
  • Provide training to engineering users on developed tools and services
  • Provide documentation (e.g., user manual) for developed tools and services
  • Aid engineering users as needed
  • Support other initiatives when necessary
Attend weekly training sessions to cultivate a deep understanding of all things related to acoustics, noise & vibration
Job Requirements: We are looking for an engineering student with the following skills:
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience with Python, Matlab, C++, other modern languages, revision control, and other software development tooling
  • Experience or interest in manipulating or analysing waveforms in software
  • Experience or interest in machine learning and sound classification
  • Strong knowledge of digital signal processing and control systems
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience with computers, computer networking, and modern technologies (e.g., Linux, Amazon Web Services, etc.)
  • Knowledge of acoustics, noise and vibration is an asset
