We're a Toronto-based startup with big ambitions.  As a software developer intern, you will help build exciting features, services, and infrastructure tools needed to propel PolicyMe's growth. We are a small and ambitious team of technologists, problem-solvers, innovators, and licensed insurance experts looking to revolutionize an industry that has historically shied away from change and innovation. We need your help to create a world-class experience for our users. This role is ideal for developers who feel confident in their technical ability and are looking to work in a fast-paced environment.  Responsibilities: ·       Build out new functionality for our web application ·       Add features to our Python3/Flask back end ·       Create new React components for shared npm packages ·       Contribute to ongoing SEO technical improvements, including profiling performance of the website and optimizing various areas of the app (JavaScript bundle sizes, lazy-loading of assets, ...) ·       Improve all areas of our SDLC by contributing to tools and infrastructure on AWS ·       Add to automated unit and end-to-end test suites using Jest, Cypress, PyTest to ensure bugfree experiences for our users ·       Improve all areas of our SDLC by contributing to CI/CD tools and development helper scripts ·       contribute to our highly-available infrastructure with microservice architecture using AWS services such as elastic beanstalk, lambda, S3, SQS, RDS, Cloudwatch etc. Perks: - Impactful work: Users will see your work early and often - Career development: weekly one-on-ones to provide support, advice, expertise, mentorship - Access to founders: no strict hierarchy or red tape, work, brainstorm, chat directly with founders - Team events: several opportunities each month to connect with coworkers over lunches, events, etc. - No legacy code: Founded in 2018, we continue to use cutting-edge tech and refine/refactor our solutions - Remote-first: Our company was built with remote work culture in mind and will continue to support remote employees - Company events in our Toronto-based office three times a year - Code reviews: get feedback within the context of your work in real time, not at the end of the term/project - Collaborative environment: Work with employees at all levels across departments
Job Requirements:	Qualifications: ·       Experience in JavaScript (ES.Next) and Node.js ·       Experience with Python or another server-side scripting language ·       Cursory knowledge of HTML5/CSS3 best practices and features ·       Curiosity and ability to be autonomous to figure out what's important ·       Flexibility and willingness to learn - ability to adapt quickly to new problems and fluid project circumstance Nice to have: ·       React and Redux experience a plus ·       Experience with AWS (EC2, S3, Elastic Beanstalk, RDS, ) ·       Automated testing framework experience
