Job Description: Hi, we’re ecobee. ecobee introduced the world’s first smart Wi-Fi thermostat to help millions of consumers save money, conserve energy, and bring home automation into their lives. That was just the beginning. We continue our pursuit to create technology that brings peace of mind into the home and allows people to focus on the moments that matter most. We take pride in making a meaningful difference to the environment, all while being part of the exciting, connected home revolution.

In 2021, ecobee became a subsidiary of Generac Power Systems. Generac introduced the first affordable backup generator and later created the category of automatic home standby generator. The company is committed to sustainable, cleaner energy products poised to revolutionize the 21st century electrical grid. Together, we take pride in making a meaningful difference to the environment, all while being part of the exciting, connected home revolution.

The Role:

As a software developer with a primary focus on security, you’ll be working with our development teams to improve the security of our products at every layer of the stack. As an IoT company you’ll get exposure to a rather broad scope in the security field, including physical security and embedded code analysis for our devices, web security and applying OWASP best-practices to our web applications, and networking and data security for our various hosting environments.

We are looking for a Security Co-op to join our team for the 2024 PEY work term!

How You’ll Make an Impact:
  • You’ll use your software development skills, your passion for thorough analysis, and your ability to collaborate and teach other developers to accomplish this. In this capacity, you’ll get to experience a wide range of security-related responsibilities.
  • A typical day might entail everything from:
    • Analysis (trying to expose vulnerabilities in our applications using pen-testing and static analysis tools)
    • Education (setting policies and building checks and pipelines to ensure our data science team follows our data privacy and security guidelines)
    • Development (working directly with our codebases to address vulnerabilities).
At ecobee, we work in a fully agile environment. You’ll be working directly with a software development team focused on the ongoing security and analysis for a specific product but will also get to participate in company-wide initiatives like security education, policy creation, and tool selection to improve our overall security posture. You’ll get the opportunity to bring your areas of interest to life at ecobee through hack-days and a culture built around grassroots ideas.
Job Requirements: What You Bring to the Table:
- A current Computer Science, Software, Computer or Electrical Engineering student.
- Experienced with using Linux systems.
- Enjoys the craft of developing software.
- Just so you know: the hired candidate will be required to complete a background check.

We’re up to incredible things. Come and be part of them.
