| Job Description: |
The Wainberg lab (wainberglab.org) applies computational modeling to large datasets to learn how genetics causes brain diseases. Our overarching goal is to find new drug targets, while developing new ways to do genetic studies and extract meaning from them along the way. We are looking for students interested in developing machine learning models to infer causal genetic variants, genes and cell types for brain diseases. These models will leverage multiple sources of large-scale biological data, including the results of genetic studies (genome-wide association studies) on hundreds of thousands of people, information on how variants relate to genes and cell types (single-cell omics), and information on how genes relate to each other (biological networks). Other potential projects include performing the first-ever large-scale genetic studies of "functional disorders" like fibromyalgia across multiple nation-level genetic biobanks, and uncovering the contribution of exotic classes of genetic variants ("mutations") to Alzheimer's disease in the world's largest Alzheimer's whole-genome sequencing cohort. |
