| Job Description: |
Our Purpose At Xero, we’re here to make life better for people in small business, their advisors and communities around the world. By making small business more efficient every day, connecting them with big business technology and empowering a community behind them, their potential is limitless. When that happens, we’re not only helping small business, we’ll be building a stronger economy that can change the world. How you’ll make an impact One way we make life better for our customers is by honing in on the most repetitive, routine and time consuming financial tasks and making them happen easily and, ideally, automatically. This is the mission of the Spend Management product portfolio at Xero. We are a group of product teams which use machine learning, beautiful user experiences and a deep understanding of our customers to suck time out of accounting and bookkeeping work and give it back to our customers. This is the best kind of automation, which, instead of replacing humans, empowers them to automate their least favourite tasks and get precious time back - to serve more clients, provide a higher quality of service, or do whatever else they want to do! As a Product Intern, you will support the product vision, strategy, roadmap and metrics for one of the cross-functional pods for our Hubdoc product (Xero’s document automation solution). You will work with your peers in engineering, design and research to deeply understand the market, technological landscape and your customers’ needs, and then translate that understanding into compelling products and services that solve real problems. The work you’ll do is highly visible, thousands of users upload millions of documents a month via Hubdoc. It is also mission critical, as it involves ownership of several core services that power our product and business. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A FIXED 16 MONTH INTERNSHIP STARTING MAY 2024 |

Success looks like We think great product chops means competence in three key themes - delivery, stakeholder management, and strategy. Delivery. You are the hammer, constantly thinking ahead to the next slice of value you can deliver to customers and leveraging best agile practices to translate those slices into clear and precise user stories and epics that your engineering peers can turn into software. You are also the janitor, flagging issues, documenting decisions and doing everything that is needed so that your team can focus on shipping software for customers (Thank you Mat Balez for two of our favourite metaphors). Stakeholder Management. You thrive when pulling together stakeholders across the business for insight, collaboration and communication. You lead through influence and credibility instead of through authority. And you can roll with both the go-to-market and technical sides of the house and speak knowledgeably about the issues that matter to them. You use these skills to help bridge the gap between strategy and delivery and make sure you are always shipping the right things. Strategy. You love crafting product strategy, including cultivating the voice of the customer, forming a long term product vision, building a rolling roadmap to deliver that vision, and identifying the right key results to evaluate whether you are on track. Importantly, you don’t do this alone: you cultivate a culture where engineers and designers obsess over customers and ideate through solutions alongside you. What youʼll bring with you: Data centric - Comfortable working with data and data tools, knowing which questions to ask and how to find the answers Customer centric - You’ll advocate endlessly for our customers, you’re customer obsessed and have a true desire to understand their needs in a deep way Structured thinking - Gather different forms of research and apply suitable frameworks to assess the problem and ideate on creative solutions Analytical - Understand how to leverage data to identify root causes of problems, hypothesize potential solutions and strategize measure of success Communication - Ability to communicate effectively to key stakeholders at various levels and drive alignment without formal authority |
