Job Description: The Power of Dreams is alive and well at Honda of Canada Mfg. (HCM). Located in Alliston, Ontario on 750 acres and employing more than 4,500 Associates, HCM is a 45-minute drive north of Toronto and 25 minutes south of Barrie. HCM began production in 1986 leading the way as the first Japanese automobile manufacturer to establish a production facility in Canada. Today, HCM is one of Honda's premier manufacturing facilities in the world producing the Honda Civic and CRV vehicles. HCM has an opportunity for a student for a work term beginning May 2024 through September 2025. Successful candidates will become a team member in HCM’s Operational Technology department and will be exposed to the latest technology in a highly automated manufacturing facility. During Operational Technology (OT) internship you will be implementing and maintaining various systems and tools that support the production departments as they work towards improving delivery and lowering operating cost. Operating technologies include but are not limited to MES, ECM, CMMS (Maximo), IIoT networks, IIoT security, Data Management and Analytics. Responsibilities: 
  • Supporting Operational Technology activity in the process automation, mechatronics, and smart factory disciplines including: Assignments / projects of varying degrees of complexity, working with team members on capital investment projects, equipment and product development to support the introduction of New Models and improving current equipment conditions
  • Supporting commissioning and installation / improving integration of equipment / delivery analysis / system integrations / data governance
  • Supporting department activities for ongoing improvements in the areas Safety, Environmental, Quality, Cost and Delivery.
Job Requirements: Requirements:
  • Must be within eight months of graduation at the completion of the internship term. (Currently in year three of a four-year degree, or year four of a five-year degree.)
  • Must be a self-starter and have strong motivation skills.
  • Must be willing to work hands on.
  • Must have strong time management and communication skills.
  • Must be willing to work occasional weekends, holidays, to support equipment installations, and overtime on short notice (pre and post shift).
  • Must be willing to support production as required.
Preferred Experience:
  • Ideal candidate is enrolled in Automation, Mechatronics or similar Electrical, Electronics Engineering programs or relevant automation exposure.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (presentation report writing skills)
  • Large team project work or technical projects demonstrating engineering aptitude, project management experience
  • Ability to work in an open concept environment and be extremely flexible
  • Industrial PLC system knowledge and ladder logic programming experience via experience or school projects
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Industrial Control System (ICS) networking (MELSEC-NET, CC-IE, Controller Link) via experience or school projects
  • Knowledge of Industrial Cyber Security principles (Fire Walls, IP addressing management)
  • Graphical designs for visual management (e.g., Microsoft Visio), or Auto CAD drafting (wiring diagrams)
  • Data extraction using structure queries language (SQL) and visualization of data.
