Our Team:
Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world.
The Port Colborne Refinery was also commissioned 100 years ago on the shore of Lake Erie. Raw materials and finished products from Vale’s Sudbury and Newfoundland and Labrador operations are transported to Port Colborne for processing.
The Geology Team is integral for Vale’s short-term and long-term operating strategy. Members of this team work across different locations to ensure life of mine support and sustainability. Team members are also involved in the development of geological initiatives, practices and procedures.
 
The Opportunity
We are currently seeking Geologist / Geological Engineering Co-op Students to join our Geology Team in Sudbury. These are fixed term positions, 4 to 12 months duration, starting in January 2024 or May 2024. Please be clear in your application which start date you are looking for.
The student will provide geological service and be expected to travel underground and get exposed to beat geology work, including grade control practices, mapping, and mineability and dilution services to the mine operations. The student will also get exposure to core logging, including QAQC and geotechnical logging, and possible exposure to drill layout creation.  
Additionally, in this position you will:
  • Attend and participate in daily safety line up meetings, and monthly safety meetings and required safety training
  • Communicate changes in ore interpretation to diamond drill geologists
  • Identify, analyze and recommend opportunities for safety, productivity and cost improvements
  • Occasional travel to mine sites and underground travel may be required
  • Current schedule is 5 days per week Monday to Friday 6:30am-3:00pm (excluding recognized holidays)
Job Requirements: About You

Education:
Currently enrolled in a Geology or Geological Engineering Co-op program

Requirements:
Must be physically capable of handling 300’-500’ of diamond drill core per day
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 products; Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
